TechSmart and Music 

Pandora – Click on this site and enter the name of one your favorite songs or bands.  Immediately, the site will begin playing a succession of songs similar to your choice.  A great tool for showing students the fundamental elements of songs including "repetitive melodic phrasing," "subtle use of vocal harmony" and "minor key tonality."  The site was created by the music Genome Project and is completely free..


Lesson Plans on the Net

Sheet Music Direct – Sheet Music Direct sells electronic sheet music that you can download instantly.  You can listen to a MIDI rendering of your song, transpose it into other keys, view it on screen as often as you like, and print one copy.  The service offers thousands of titles, ranging from pop artists to Broadway musicals, and at an affordable price.

Gary Ewer’s “Easy Music Theory”– This site was originally free, but now it advertises a CD for sale.  However, it still has some great sample lessons and quizzes too.

Domenic A. Grignano, recently,  was the Technology Facilitator and Systems Engineer at East Rock Magnet School in New Haven, CT. He is a leading technology pioneer in K-12 education, as well as a consultant for schools and major software companies. His innovative work has resulted in East Rock being recognized as a national model technology program using Compaq, Microsoft, Asante technologies, and Xerox.  

 William M. Freeman is a
